Big Baby
Give me my adult sippy cup!
Look at this cup; it’s my new favorite keep cup/tumbler to hold my water as I go about my day. I like it because it’s got bright colors, has a lid and the first initial of my name. And I don’t have just one no no, I have several of tumblers like this. Different colors, star signs and slogans on them. And you have to have different ones for hot and cold drinks; those just don’t mix.
Looking at this, I am seeing parallels to another holder-of-fluids - sippy cups.
“Most people don't grow up. Most people age. They find parking spaces, honor their credit cards, get married, have children, and call that maturity. What that is, is aging.”
― Maya Angelou
Aren’t these many colorful tumblers just adult sippy cups? They have lids on them so that they do not spill, straws for easy access and made out of durable materials so that they do not shatter when they fall to the ground. And of course, they’re larger because we are well over 40 inches tall1.
When we were kids, the parents picked the sippy cups we used. Now, tumblers and keep cups are one way to express ourselves. Sports teams, hobbies and the like. I’m not made about it, I just made that connection. Now when I’m having a drink out of my tumbler, I take a moment and think “I suppose this makes me a big baby!”
“Don't try to make me grow up before my time…” ― Louisa May Alcott, Little Women

Agreed! I’ve been calling mine sippy cups for ages. Love both the quotes you included.
